Upful Music in the Esselon Garden

Hadley, MA -- The May 6th debut performance of local roots reggae band, i Idren, will open the summer season at Esselon Cafe. Amidst the stone chairs, flowering bulbs and the new grass, the sounds of classic reggae hits from Bob Marley, Desmond Dekker, and Tarrus Riley mixed with original rasta riddims, horns and harmonies will make for a perfect evening of dinner and open air dancing. The performance, from 6 to 8pm, is free to the public and family friendly. In the event of rain, the performance will be cancelled.

i Idren formed in January of 2010, comprised of veteran local musicians who were brought together by lead singer and rhythm guitarist, Gerry LeBlanc. LeBlanc draws on his experience as lead singer and songwriter for the band Minibus, a rock/reggae/jam outfit born out of the 90’s UMass music scene. Sweet female vocal harmonies reminiscent of the legendary I-Threes which are integral to the i Idren sound, are beautifully rendered by Jenn Murphy and Gudrun Durham. The drum and bass combination so important to reggae is handled mightily by drummer Dave Noonan, one of the founding members of the Equalites, and bassist Dave Chalfant, known for his work with The Neilds, and many local and national recording artists. To top the solid rhythm section and multi-part vocals, saxophone player Jon Weeks, member of Viva Quetzal among other local groups, brings his vast experience in latin, jazz and rock horns, and he shines as the soloist in the spotlight.
